ABOUT

Umbrella is a Cardiff-based Art collective. We are Artist-led, community focussed and socially driven; offering a space that aims to contribute positively to the local community, practising an open-door policy, hosting exhibitions, workshops, skill-sharing events and residencies.

Our ethos 'Art For All' is in our everyday actions and efforts, and we hope to connect our audience with other important communities in Wales. We are an active, diverse and creative space for emerging Artists, facilitating the development of creative practices. We recognise the value in learning from each other and sharing knowledge, skills and experience.

PAISLEY RANDELL SHILLABEER

Paisley (founder & director of Cardiff Umbrella) is a Welsh artist, born and based in Cardiff. She has been developing Umbrella since completing her Fine art Masters in 2020, after spotting the need for an accessible art community that would aim to feel entirely approachable from the viewpoint of a diverse spectrum of artists, creatives and the general public. Her wide experience working within and for communities, and passion for making art accessible to all, have encouraged this adventure.

ROBERT OROS

Robert Oros (he/him), born in Romania, is a curator and artist based in Cardiff. His curatorial practice includes projects focused on contemporary art and community, such as Speak to me... (2021), curated for University of South Wales. His areas of study involves themes such as geo-political landscapes, identity and technology, with multidisciplinary art exhibitions and projects such as This is not a shop (2021), curated for FaB 2021; STATE (2022) in Cardiff Umbrella and IDLE (2022) an art residency in Shift, exploring different concepts such as immigration, democracy and communication. Robert is an Amgueddfa Cymru Producer for National Museum Wales' BBC100 project, and part of Cardiff Umbrella and Non-Place, two artists' led collectives based in South Wales.

LUKE ROBERTS

Luke Roberts (they/them) is artist originally from Anglesey, North Wales and currently based in Cardiff. Having graduated from a BFA in 2018, Luke then completed a year-long ‘Inc space’ residency within the Cardiff School of Art and Design. Following the completion of this they moved on to found the artist-led Klatch collective which hosts open calls, residencies and exhibitions aiming to encourage engagement between emerging artists and outside disciplines. Luke now concurrently runs this collective as well as acting as a curator for Cardiff Umbrella, an art collective/ gallery space that works to provide an accessible and inclusive hub for South Wales’ diverse art scene.
